The spiny crab, also known as the champagne crab (Latin Name - hypothalassia acerba), are caught in very small quantities and are primarily exported to the Chinese market. They are caught in the southern waters of Western Australia at depths between 145 to 200 meters in water temperatures of 16.1–17.1°C.
